Why Immucol?

Immucol supplies and supports:

Energy

  • Energy is a critical requirement of any new born calf. It is key to survival; therefore good colostrum must firstly provide a good source of immediate and longer term energy. Without this a calf cannot find the energy to get up and suckle from its mother. Immediate energy comes from lactose and other sugars in the colostrum. Correct energy levels allow the calf to withstand the demands of the first days of life in unforgiving weather conditions helping calf survivability.
  • Fat energy is a crucial requirement of the newborn calf. Every calf is born with a small fat reserve. A calf needs medium term fat energy to survive. Fat helps produce heat and stimulates the digestive system. Calves require energy reserves to keep them warm, protecting against hypothermia and enabling them to suckle.
  • Immucol contains high levels of oils and fats to replenish the calves' own reserves.

Immunity

  • Calves acquire passive immunity through their mothers' colostrum. Natural colostrum contains globular proteins called immunoglobulins (IgG/A/M/Y) which give immunity to bacteria and viral diseases many of which are prevalent in the environment of a newborn calf. These proteins, when included at the right level, provide passive immunity for the animal and help to keep the calf alive and healthy.
  • Quality Colostrum contains a balanced variety of active immunoglobulins and antibodies for many pathogens that affect all mammals.
  • Immunoglobulins are used by the immune system to identify and neutralize pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is the principal antibody found in colostrum. IgG is broken into subclasses IgG1 and IgG2. IgG1 makes up 90% of the IgG content in colostrum. IgA and IgM are also found. IgA serves as the first line of defence against bacterial and viral antigens.

Gut Conditioning

  • A stable healthy gut flora is essential to the newborn calf. Prebiotics have several beneficial effects; improved digestion; nutrient assimilation; absorption of key minerals and integrity of the immune system.
  • The prebiotic scFOS (short chain Fructo-Oligosaccharide) included in Immucol is a mixture of soluble dietary fibres - short chains of sugars - which are slowly fermented in the gut and enhance the number and activity of beneficial bacteria - particularly lactic acid bacteria, thus reducing the potential for scours.
  • The Natural gut conditioner pack in Immucol is designed to promote intestinal development and restrict the growth of bad bacteria and thereby reduce the potential digestive upset. NuStart contains functional fibres and short chain Fructo-oligosaccharides (scFOS) which help to encourage the growth of good digestive bacteria.

Antioxidants

  • New born calves are particularly prone to antioxidant deficiency. Symptoms may appear at any time from just after birth up to several weeks. Antioxidant levels in the diet of the mother can often be low and variable. Studies of vitamin E levels in silage confirm this. Transfer across the placenta is typically poor and many calves are born with critically low levels. This compromises the immune system, may result in heart failure and frequently render the calf too weak to be viable.
  • Immucol provides a mixture of powerful natural antioxidants, rich in alpha-tocopherol - vitamin E - and other natural compounds such as flavanoids, carotenoids and polyphenolic compounds which are effective in enhancing immune response, reducing infections and mortality. New born calves depend on brown fat as a primary source of non shivering heat production. Antioxidants are important because burning brown fat requires ample amounts to reduce free radical build up.???????

Nucleotides

  • Nucleotides are critical for cellular development and also crucial in the development of the immune system.

Vitamins and minerals

  • Immucol is fortified with additional vitamins and minerals all essential for growth and development from the beginning of life.
