Product Description

Accurate and well-timed heat detection is hard. Made harder by the 30% of cows that show no reliable signs or behaviours.

P4Gold is a simple in milk test that will confirm whether or not your cow is in heat.  All it takes is a milk sample from your cow and 10 minutes to run a simple test, in the parlour.

P4Gold gives you clear and accurate information to help you manage the fertility of your herd

Used on its own or alongside other heat detection devices, P4Gold will:

  • Prevent mistimed insemination
  • Prevent insemination of an already pregnant cow
  • Prevent incorrect calving dates and mistimed dry periods
  • Detect silent heats
  • Improve PD percentages
  • Help you investigate poor fertility
  • Help you investigate non-cycling cows
  • Help you diagnose problems such as persistent corpus luteum
  • Work alongside other heat detection methods to remove false positives
  • Detect non-pregnant cows 19-23 days post insemination

Please note P4Gold is not a pregnancy or bPAG test and is not intended for use on its own as a diagnostic tool.

Instructions

Designed to be a simple and quick test. Follow the 8 easy steps below to see your results in 10 minutes.

  1. Strip the teat 3 times before taking a sample into a pot. You only need milk from one quarter.
  2. Swirl the pot to mix up the milk and distribute the fat.
  3. Using the pipette, squeeze draw milk up to the base of the bulb.
  4. Squeeze 5 drops of milk into the test tube. This is the correct amount of milk , do not add more. Discard pipette.
  5. Using the dropper bottle, squeeze 3 drops of reagent only into the test tube containing the milk.
  6. Swirl the test tube to mix up the milk and reagent.
  7. Open the foil pouch and remove the test. Add the test to the test tube with the gold arrows pointing down. Leave in milk for exactly 10 minutes.
  8. Finished! Remove the test immediately once the 10 minutes is up and read the result.

How to Read

After the 10 minutes are up, remove your P4Gold test and place it down onto a flat surface next to your instruction leaflet for comparison. You must read the test the correct way up, with the yellow arrows pointing down.

Compare your lines to each other using the pictures below as a guide.

If there is no control line, the test has failed. Please run a new test using the same sample.

LOW RESULT: If your test line is STRONGER than your control line – so your bottom line is stronger than your top line – your result is LOW. This means your cow is in heat and ready for AI.

MEDIUM RESULT: If your lines are EQUAL in intensity, your result is medium progesterone. Your cow is either coming into heat or just coming out of heat. You will need to re-test tomorrow to see if your result changes.

HIGH RESULT: If your test line is WEAKER than your control line, or there is no test line, your result is high progesterone. Your cow is not in heat and could even be pregnant, so do not AI. Test again in 1 week to see if your result changes. If result is still high in 21-24 days after AI, send your cow to pregnancy diagnosis.

What has changed?

  • New Gold nanoparticles for increased precision, producing an additional third test result. This allows you to pin point more accurately when your cow is coming into heat
  • Higher degree of accuracy and improved reliability
  • Red lines instead of blue, which are much easier to read
  • The test now takes 10 minutes instead of 5, to ensure increased accuracy
  • Addition of a reagent in a dropper bottle to help fatty milk to run up the stick

What’s the same?

  • Same instructions to use apart from the addition of the reagent and reading after 10 minutes, not 5
  • Can still be carried out anywhere, at any time
  • Produced to the same high standards
  • Testing the same hormone, but with more accuracy
